WordPress JetPack connection issues (can't connect to anything on

Posted January 6, 2016 4.5k views

Hi. I’m running a instance on Ubuntu 14.04 x64. I’m using WordPress on here. I noticed connection issues with the JetPack plugin. I get this error:

Jetpack could not contact register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
Failed to connect to port 80: Connection timed out

It turns out that I can’t connect to ANY subdomain of

$ ping
PING ( 56(84) bytes of data.
--- ping statistics ---
40 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 39312ms

It resolves the DNS fine, but the connection fails:

traceroute to (, 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1 (  0.560 ms  0.544 ms (  0.507 ms
 2 (  1.555 ms (  0.435 ms  1.096 ms
 3 (  0.613 ms  1.430 ms *

 5  * * *

Is this a DO network routing issue? Or do they block connections to

Any help is appreciated.
