Any Plan for Datacenter in China

Posted July 16, 2014 5.1k views

Any plan to expand data center in China? I understand it is more troublesome due to tons of local regulation and etc, but its a too big of a market to ignore. Not to mention there aren’t many good hosting companies in China. The Singapore data center is closer but still outside of the great firewall of China. Amazon has already entered China with AWS.

Yes this would be great. My site is China focused and the China based providers are just not as cool a Digital Ocean.

+1 for data center in China. Singapore server has latency around 40ms to Beijing.

We have no plans at this time to open a data center in China.

  • Then, It’s time to create a plan now !

  • if D.O. will be hosting in China that will be great, but if that regime is asking you to sacrifice customer data / privacy in exchange of opening the door for you, please don’t.

i’d rather D.O. to stay true to their customers than providing this kind of “convenience”.

Just to add to this, if DO will be sharing any userdata, personal information, or will change any thing just because china and their dictators require them to see everything their “users” does, I’ll move my companys activities to Vultr etc.

Hey @ryan.cheng,

Great idea, sounds like it’d be super useful!

It looks like someone has had the same idea before and has posted it on our Product Ideas board. The best thing to do would be to head over and add your vote to it, as well as adding any additional information in the comments for exactly what you’d like to see implemented!

Hope that helps!
