Any reason to use WordPress MU Domain Mapping?

Making a sub-domain site and changing its domain seems perfectly ok.
But most of tutorials use WordPress MU Domain Mapping. Why are they using it?

  • While there are some use cases specific to using MU like providing blogs to others within a platform MU also allows you to keep a single codebase updated and to manage one central repository of themes and plugins rather than doing so individually across many sites.
