Can I use my existing DO droplet with newly built VPN?

Posted on May 29, 2020

Hi, folks! Please, advise me if I can leave my droplet (created and used for 2 years now) to work with my newly created VPN? I had a crash of my Windows 10 some time before, and now have to reinstall it and recreate my AlgoVPN on it. I do wonder, if I do not have to create a new droplet, but can use this existing one with all its settings. This would certainly save me some time. Thank you to all who can help with advice.

Hello,

Yes this should be doable, you just need to get your config from the Droplet as described in Step 9 here:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-an-openvpn-server-on-ubuntu-18-04#step-9-—-generating-client-configurations

If this does not work, what I usually do is to use the OpenVPN image from the Marketplace here:

https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/openvpn-access-server

It works out of the box and is really quick to setup.
