I am currently in the process of switching from a Wordpress site to a Hugo static site, and given my use-case I am thinking it may be easier for now to run my website off of Github pages rather than convert my droplet.
That said, I don’t want to delete my droplet, I will continue using it. I also do not want to touch the mail DNS if possible, as it is set up to forward to Google mail servers where I use gmail’s custom domain email service.
Is it possible to point my website domain at Github pages, while leaving the MX records intact? Essentially I am looking for the path of least resistance here as I do not want to screw up my email service while fiddling with DNS.

Great question. You can absolutely move your website DNS around without touching the MX records. Just edit the “@” (also shown as just “domain.tld”) and “www” records as needed, and leave the MX records in place.
