Hi, I wonder when/if centos will upgrade php from 5.4 for their repo or is it remi or compiling from scratch that is the solution forever and ever and ever? thanks!

Centos will do it when they have time, till then you’ll have to either compile it yourself or move to a different OS such as ubuntu 15.
