What is the reason for this report?

Change password in the first time login with Putty

Hello. I cant change password when first time login with Putty. Detail: After create new acount, I create new Droplet (RAM 512, CentOS, Singapore), I got all info into my email. I used IP, user and password in Email to login via Putty, after enter password, it’s require me change root password but when I enter new password, immediately Putty closed, I cant change password.

Please let me know problem and help me.

I am doing (have done) the same process with Putty through cut and paste. It’s clunky and sometimes just exits. I would really appreciate it if you guys got a better root passwd reset mechanism for the initial login. It seems to always be an issue. Thanks!

It just may make more sense to quickly type in the long first time password. :)

When it asks you to change the password it’s using the passwd utility which asks for your current password first. You need to enter your current password before it will ask you for the new one.
