Create user with one directory access only

Posted on May 3, 2019

Hello There,

I need to create a user other than root which has only one directory access and can not access root.

For ex., I am Developer Admin and have root credentials. Design team need to upload some design flyers to specific folder. So I want to create a new user i.e. designlogin and that can access only design folder, not root i.e. var/www/flyers.

How can I do that? I have searched many links & commands (adduser, useradd etc) on internet, however no success. [We can able to add user however not able to login using it.]

Please guide me with this and Looking forward to get your reply at earliest.

PS: I have already raised a ticket however no reply so asking your help here.

Thank you, Adhrit

You can use a root jail to restrict your user to the specified directory, however you need to copy some of the binaries needed to run command to this directory too.
