I have a direct assignment for a block of IP addresses, which my ISP isn’t willing/able to route for a reasonable price. Currently, I maintain a router installed at an off-site colocation provider, and then route this IP address block over a VPN to my location. I could gain robustness if I didn’t have to be concerned about my individual hardware failure, and I’d probably save a few dollars each month, too, if I could virtualize this solution. Of course, that’s dependent on whether or not you can and are willing to route a customer owned address block to a VM.
