On Monday November 9, 2021: DO rolled out an upgrade to the load balancers that allows you to scale the number of nodes per LB, and thus scale the number of connections it can handle.
This included the language that each node could handle 10k Requests per second, 10k Simultaneous connections, and 250 SSL connections per second.
What wasn’t explicitly stated, but feels to be true: the previous LB configuration allowed you to have 10k SSL connections per second.
This bit us pretty hard. And having to pay 40x for the same level of support does not feel like an upgrade.

It sounds like there might be some confusion between the maximum simultaneous connections for an LB and the maximum number of new SSL connections per second.
Looking at our old pricing docs prior to this launch, the old “small” LB had a maximum of 250 new SSL connections per second, [1] which remains the same for a single LB node under the new pricing. [2] This is different from the maximum number of simultaneous connections for an LB node, which is 10k.
