DO droplet running nodeJS and mongoDB suddenly started cutting out randomly.

Posted on August 27, 2018

The droplet running the latest version of node, mongo, and every node module it has installed. It is a small website, so it is no where near approaching the droplets limits. It routes through Cloudflare. This has never been an issue before, but suddenly has become very prominent. Approximately 1/3 times you try to access the website you get hit with the Cloudflare error 502 bad gateway page, which means the server was unreachable at that time. However, if you just click reload from this page it will load the site like nothing happened. The server doesn’t log any errors at this time, it says that it has been constantly running. I’ve spent approximately 6 hours troubleshooting this to no avail. Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Hey friend!

If you check the web console (as opposed to SSH), do you see any errors printed on the screen? I’m thinking you may be running out of memory. It’s important to note that no change is necessary from your side for things to start acting differently, especially when so many people out there are running servers that scan other servers for content or vulnerabilities, increasing load on even the smallest website with no warning or clear indication.
