Hi folks. I have bought a domain on AWS by using their service Route 53. I’d like to create an email server here on Digital Ocean. The MX record has to be created on AWS, hasn’t it? I have found a tutorial on digital ocean to build a iredmail server on a ubuntu droplet. It says “If you have a domain name you want to use, name your droplet as that domain name, which will become its hostname and reverse DNS record.” this means that if I call the droplet like my domain, all the request will be addressed to domain name server on AWS?

This question was answered by @bofh:
No. Name your droplet something.yourdomain.com. Then make an A record
something IN A droplet’s.ip.address
and then an mx record
yourdomain.com. IN MX something
You can use whatever name you like as ‘something’ but be consistent.
