Droplet DNS and Virtual server running DNS

Posted on September 27, 2013

Pardon my newbie-ness question regarding DNS. I have a droplet that is running VirtualMin and DNS. I’m a little confused as to the correct way to configure DNS for multiple domains.

Should I configure them on the Droplet’s Admin or should I configure them within VirtualMin or Both?

It depends on which DNS servers you’re using. You can add NS records to point to your droplet and use your own nameservers instead of DigitalOceans’s. If you’re using DigitalOcean’s NS servers, you will have to create them on both ends.

See “Branded Nameservers”: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-create-vanity-or-branded-nameservers-with-digitalocean-cloud-servers
