Droplet set up for multiple cms within a site?

Posted on March 16, 2021

Hi, this may be a really stupid question so please excuse me, still learning all this, here goes… I have an idea for a website that offers multiple services, I want to have a landing page that has info and links to all the individual products / services / apps… I’ll be using multiple cms / php systems, my dilemma is, do i install all the cms individual droplets and point to that droplet using a record and subdomain ? or just install all on the same droplet and domain using just the standard subfolder setup

my concern is growth, as if all cms are on their own droplet then there’s a single point of failure and each can be scaled when required

but if all on the same droplet then more things can go wrong

Thinking of Growth Maintenance Reliability SEO And how the structure will look to users

any suggestions will be appreciated

Hi there,

It is a standard thing to run multiple applications on the same server. You can achieve that by adding separate Apache Virtual hosts for each website. You can follow the steps on how to do that here:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-apache-virtual-hosts-on-ubuntu-18-04

Later on, in case that a specific website is getting a lot of traffic, you could move it to a separate Droplet.

But indeed as you mentioned in some cases it is better to keep things separate and deploy specific applications on separate Droplets.

Hope that this helps! Regards, Bobby
