Error 521 and Data Recovery Issues

Hello this is just to bring everyone’s notice about this faceless company called digital ocean. Their tech support is so bad, nothing works at all, how can a company that deals with sensitive information for their clients keep loosing data without anyway of recovering it. This is not the first time, data files of over a year. I have been on data recovery issue for over three weeks now yet they can’t even offer telephone support even via skype. It is so bad that i keep being directed to folders that doesn’t even exist to locate data files. Digital Ocean is supposed to be our last resort in recovering our data not the other way round

DigitalOcean is an un-managed provider. Their support is and always has been limited to network and physical server issues (CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, and other such hardware issues).

Once you deploy a Droplet, whether it’s a blank OS or a one-click, you’re still responsible for all things management (i.e. securing, updating, etc). They don’t do this for you. To effectively run and utilize a VPS, you need to be well-versed in the OS you’re deploying or be willing to read and learn what you need to know/do. VPS’s, much like Dedicated Servers, are not secure by default (anymore secure than the OS or software you install), so updating packages, upgrading packages, installing and updating software, etc – it’s all part of running your own web server.

As far as backups, the do provide this as a service, though as with anything one would consider to be critical, a single source of backups is not a viable solution.
