Error running Chrome via Putty/TightVNC/Xfce

Posted on June 28, 2020

We have two non-root users on our VPS. We have separate headless connections via Putty/TightVNC/Xfce set as display 1 and display 2. All setup according to the Digital Ocean instructions. Everything worked great for months except all of sudden the Chrome shortcut didn’t work. Further investigation using Terminal found that launching “google-chrome” or “google-chrome-stable” generated this error:

Xlib: extension “XInputExtension” missing on display “:1.0” Xlib: extension “RANDR” missing on display “:1.0”

Of course, I google searched for these errors but others that posted on other forums received no solution. I updated & upgraded the VPS, rebooted but no success. Everything else works fine!

Any help is much appreciated.
