Gzip and Brotli compression efficiency question?

Posted on June 3, 2020

Hi,

I have my marketing agency hosted on an Nginx server. I have enabled gzip as well as Brotli. I want to know how can I set precedence levels here?

Hello, @datadab

Nginx gives precedence to Brotli if both are supported. Although keep in mind that ngx_brotli doesn’t re-compress already compressed responses, so if it’s gzipped before reaching Nginx, it will be passed to the client as such. Basically if the client supports both, Brotli is preferred over Gzip.

Hope this helps!
