How is digitalocean secure in directing traffic of my domain name to my droplet?

(Sorry for lack of proper technical language) On my domain name registrar ( I set up the DNS for my website name (say to be ns1/2/ Then I went to the DO control panel and added the domain

But this got me thinking, can’t someone hijack my website traffic? It seems that I can enter any domain name in the DO control panel. If someone else entered, how does DO know which IP to direct traffic to? Is it a first come first serve type of thing?

Yes, it’s first come first serve. If you own a domain and have added it to your DigitalOcean account, no one else will be able to add it to theirs. It’s also true the other way around, but, if you’re unable to add a domain that you own, open a support ticket and we’ll take care of it :)

If you’ve added the domain to your account and have your name servers set to, there’s nothing to be worried about!
