Question

How to allow multiple users to upload to the web directory?

Hello,

I am hosting multiple websites in a single NGINX server with the below directory structure;

/var/www
  webiste-1
    html
      index.php

  website-2
    html
      index.php

I’m using an account with sudo privileges. Now, I would like to add another user that needs to upload files inside the html folders.

What would be my best option here?

TIA

Hello,

you can create a new sudo user.

To create one, follow these steps:

Create the user:

sudo adduser testusername

Set and confirm the new user’s password at the prompt. I would suggest to use a strong password :

Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

After you’ve confirmed the password, you’ll be asked to provide information like Full Name, Work Phone etc. You can skip those.

Once the user has been completed, you can add it to the sudo group using the usermod contact:

usermod -aG sudo testusername

By default, on Ubuntu, members of the sudo group have sudo privileges.

Once this is done, to test if everything has been configured correctly, you can switch as the user

su testusername

and try something like

sudo ls -lah /var
