The easiest method would be to use a panel like cPanel though that does have it’s own cost. This guide will walk you through a mailserver configuration. Before getting started I would also recommend reviewing this guide as well as there are a lot of things to think about when running your own mail services.

In this tutorial we are going to configure a mail server using Postfix, Dovecot, MySQL, and SpamAssassin on Ubuntu 12.04.
  • To add just something for @mcardoza.

You have second option - two go with third-party mail service. It Is the easiest way to set up and manage mails.
    There are two options:

    1. Google Gmail for Work. This is most popular and great email service, but it’s not free. DigitalOcean also has tutorial for setting it up - How To Set Up Gmail with Your Domain on DigitalOcean.
    2. Zoho Mail. Zoho has free tier, that comes with 20 or 25 mail accounts. DigitalOcean tutorial can help you get around How To Set Up Zoho Mail with a Custom Domain Managed by DigitalOcean DNS.

Both services let you use your own domain name for accounts. And this solution grants that you will not have headache installing, configuring and maintaining your own server (which can be hard, and I don’t recommend it to new users without experience) .

One way to send and receive email through your own custom domain is to use a third-party mail service, such as Zoho or Google Apps. The main benefit of using a third-party mail service, as opposed to managing your own mail server, is that you can avoid performing the ongoing maintenance that running a mail server entails. This tutorial will show you how to set up Zoho Mail with your custom domain that is managed by DigitalOcean's Domain Name Servers.
    • Absolutely! Thanks @xMudrii

I would strongly recommend this option if it will fit your needs. I personally use Zoho for mail for a couple of my own domains rather than administer mail services myself. The time saved is worth it when it comes to mail.

I use rackspace email service. Its pretty good.
