How to set up maildomain settings?

Posted on September 25, 2014

Hello guys,

Currently I have a LEMP stack on an Ubuntu 14.04 server running on a Droplet. Aside this I have installed Piwik, a Web analytics package that allows me to analyze incoming usertraffic. Piwik offers me an option to send reports out on a weekly basis to a chosen email account.

I have a mailbox at Gandi, example@example.com that I want to use for this. How would I set up Ubuntu 14.04 with the ability to send mail out and how would I make it arrive on the example@example.com mailbox? I am currently not running a DNS server on my Droplet.

Do I need to install a mailserver? If so, what would I have to do with my DNS settings within DigitalOcean?

I currently have made no settings whatsoever towards making a working mailing configuration. What would my starting point be? Where should I look? Are there any tutorials that could be of help? I currently am drawing a blank.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

one way is to setup your own mail server, for example with postfix (tutorial here). However, if you only want to send emails from Piwik, you can use any external SMTP server (Gmail, Gandi, …). You can find the necessary steps in the Piwik documentation.
