Question

How to set user permissions in managed MySQL

I’ve a managed MYSQL cluster with various databases for different applications. I need to create a user and grant it permissions over one specific database base in that cluster.

I can create the user without any issues through the Managed DB portal, but there’s no where to set the permissions. I’ve tried running SQL commands to set permissions (eg. GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON app1_database.* TO ‘user123’@‘%’) as well as through database management apps, however it’s saying “access denied” when trying to set appropriate permissions.

I’m going to guess that my admin account doesn’t have full access over the cluster, so how do we set user based permissions? At the moment the specific user can see all databases in the cluster.

Hi @kalevkalamae,

You are correct in a way you can change permission of your users up to a limit with the GRANT query as this is a managed instance.

Regarding the permissions of your users, I’ll recommend you to check the following Docs on how to modify your users permissions
