https works for root domain but not www

Posted on February 21, 2017

I setup encryption for my example.com that works for https://example.com but does not work for https://www.example.com

I’m going to try to troubleshoot this but if anyone has any thoughts on the likely cause of this, a point in the right direction would be helpful. Thank you.

The domain in question above is using Nginx but no CMS or anything like that. I have another domain on the same droplet for which I’m using Ghost for blogging.

Are you using LetsEncrypt for the certificate? If yes, then you need to create the certificate for www.example.com as well. And you need to reference that certificate in your Nginx configuration related to where the www.example.com section is.
