I have an issue with installing a Minecraft server. When I use the command
wget -O minecraft_server.jar https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/versions/1.7.9/minecraft_server.1.7.9.jar
It will open the wget --help menu and it will not download the jar. When I open the link in my browser it will download it so it’s not the link.

The exact same command works fine for me – are you typing it in manually or pasting it?
Hi, thanks for your answer. I retyped it exactly the same as described.
For the most recent version, I simply typed:
wget https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/versions/1.8.1/minecraft_server.1.8.1.jar
Also, to paste into Putty (if you’re using that), you simply copy the text like normal and then right-click into the putty console.
I wrote the minecraft tutorial here and checked each step myself if you need any other help.
