Is there a minimal installation option for Fedora?

Posted September 13, 2014 4.9k views

Hi, I just installed Fedora 20. I found that there are many many programs that I do not need and it is a hassle to uninstall them as I need to review one by one. I just want the bare minimum OS and add it from there. Is there such an option?

We currently only offer the one Fedora image. It should be pretty bare bones though. What are the packages that you uninstall on a fresh Fedora droplet? We’re definitely open to making changes, and if there are packages there that aren’t useful to the majority of our users we’d remove them. Though we try to stick as closely to the distro defaults as possible.

  • Thank you for the response. You can check out the minimal installation format on Fedora Website

I erased about 100 packages from my droplet. Just to list a few here:

    • sssd
    • sos
    • hunspell
    • telnet
    • pcsc
    • ntfs
    • finger

If you can standardize and provide the same as Fedora minimal installation format, then the setup experience will be more consistent. Uninstalling programs can be problematic at times.
