Link a GoDaddy email with Digital Ocean

Posted on December 12, 2020

I thought this question was answered here but I still cannot receive emails to the addresses I set up with GoDaddy.

I bought my domain and a couple of email addresses for that domain on GoDaddy, but I am hosting on DigitalOcean. I have successfully configured the domain, but I am unable to receive any emails to the accounts I have created. Following the question I have linked, I added:

  • A mail.mydomain my_ip 3600
  • MX mail.mydomain stmp.secureserver.net. 14400 to the DNS records. However, this is still not working. Anyone know what is wrong?

Hi there @thomasread99,

What I could suggest here is to use this DNS tool here to check if the record is actually available:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tools/dns

Also, note that it could take up to 24-48 hours after the DNS change was made before you could see the new DNS records.

Regards, Bobby

Hello, thomasread99

As Bobby mentioned this is most likely due to the DNS itself. The change might take up to 48 hours in order to fully update to DNS cache from the ISPs.

You can use the link which Bobby provided in order to check if everything is okay with it. You can also monitor the DNS propagation using a site like:

https://www.whatsmydns.net/

Hope that this helps! Regards, Alex
