Managed database standby nodes in different datacenter

Posted on November 23, 2020

Do you allow standby nodes to work in different datacenters? If not. What is your solution for datacenter failover? If I have servers in 2 different datacenters for failover and managed database is in only one of them my failover won’t work.

Hi @arturczapiewskiremi

Standby nodes is only supported for the same region now. We’ve never had a total outage in any of our data centers before, but we have a contingency plan for a situation like that.

We perform two full backups daily. As well, we backup the WAL every 5 minutes. These backups are hosted in a separate datacenter. In the event of a datacenter failure, you will have the option to recreate your database cluster in another data center of your choice using your backup with the risk of losing at most 5 min of data.
