I have never tried this, but I have thought about it before. AWS provides a tool to export running VMs as VMware images. Look for the VM Import/Export tool in their documentation (I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link to it).
Then, the DO Custom Images tool allows you to upload VMWare images. Put these two tools together and you should be able to pull this off.
