Move Redirect 301 from Apache to Nginx (RedirectMatch)

Posted on October 8, 2014

Hi, i’ve alwayes used Apache and now in my new dropplet i switch to Nginx. After reading various tutorials, now i have my wordpress working fine. But i still have one doubt with a 301 redirection.

In my apache’s htaccess i have the line:

RedirectMatch 301 ^/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/(.*)$ http://thalskarth.com/$4

And i don’t know how to translate that to Nginx.

The idea is to redirect a URL like this:

http://thalskarth.com/2014/10/02/pagina-ejemplo/

into this:

http://thalskarth.com/pagina-ejemplo/

Could someone give a hand with this?

rewrite "^/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/(.*)$" $4 permanent;

You would use it like this:

server {
    listen 80;
    server_name domain-name;

    # ...
    rewrite "^/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/(.*)$" $4 permanent;
    # ...
}
