One big droplet with serverpilot to host a lot of wordpress sites?

Posted on June 22, 2016

Hello!

I am new here and I was wondering if it is a bad idea to host like 10 or 20 wordpress installs on one single mid performance droplet with serverpilot? Maybe 80% of the installs gets like 50 visitors a day.

What are the pros and cons?

Thanks!

Hi

I am planning to do the same. I have 5 test sites setup and just trying to get confident in the workflow with this. I have installed my php admin so I have that backend access. I can login to any of the sites on the server with the one myphpadmin install. I am not sure what else to plan for. I am running mainWP on the server too for all site so this should be a good workflow. I’d be interested to hear about your progress! cheers

Hi,

For 20 average sites, a 2 GB droplet should be good. This page has more info and a memory usage estimate:

For security reasons, it’s best to run each site under a separate system user. That way, if one of the sites has a security issue due to an insecure WordPress plugin, the other sites will still be safe. This article shows how to run apps under separate system users:
