Owncloud Legacy Version that Runs on PHP 5.3?

Posted on August 11, 2015

I am using POWWEB as my hosting service, and they currently are using PHP 5.3. When I try to install, I get a message that PHP Ver 5.4 prerequisite error. I have contact their admin, and all they will tell me is that are going to upgrade, but there is no ETA - in-other-words, an answer to get me off of the phone. Is there a version that can be installed that may possibly work with PHP 5.3 or a work-around?

It sounds like you’re at a legacy hosting company using outdated software. PHP 5.3 has not received any security updates in a long time. PHP 5.4 is about to receive its final release and PHP 7.0 is coming out soon.

I suggest getting your own server at DigitalOcean. :)

Hello there,

I’ll recommend installing OwnCloud on the latest version of PHP in order to make sure that you’re running the latest software and security updates

You can check this tutorial on OwnCloud docs on how to install it on a Ubuntu 22.04

https://doc.owncloud.com/server/next/admin_manual/installation/quick_guides/ubuntu_22_04.html

We also have a tutorial but it is for Ubuntu 18.04
