rsync: connection unexpectedly closed

December 30, 2014 1.6k views

I'm trying to backup files from one droplet to another via rsync but getting the error:

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [Receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(601) [Receiver=3.0.7]

both droplets are runing Debian 6.0 x32

  • Are you seeing any other connection issues on these droplets? You may want to try using scp to see if you get the same result. You can copy a directory (/var/www in this example) to another droplet using the command:

    scp -r /var/www root@0.0.0.0:/var/.

  • Thank you Ryan, this command copied folder without any problems and I guess I'll be fine with scp but what's wrong with rsync?
