Getting this error on my wordpress site. Can anyone assist.

Did you have add these lines in your .httaccess: <br> <br># BEGIN WordPress <br><IfModule mod_rewrite.c> <br>RewriteEngine On <br>RewriteBase / <br>RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L] <br>RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f <br>RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d <br>RewriteRule . /index.php [L] <br></IfModule> <br> <br># END WordPress
I find I’m still having problems, getting the same error. I looked at my .htaccess file and all the information is all messed up. Does that matter? I don’t seem able to create a .htaccess file via permalinks either. I think this is where the problem lies.
