Bobby gave me the following link to do the upgrade: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-upgrade-to-ubuntu-16-04-lts
After I completed all the commands which were stated in the link, I was able to upgrade our system to 16.04.6 LTS. However, when I tried to access our website, I was getting the following errors:

Hi @adminClam,
Can you confirm you are trying to open the website in the browser? If so, it seems like your WebService can’t read the file. Please check if PHP is still installed by typing in php -v
If it’s installed, I’ll recommend checking your WebService’s(Nginx/Apache) log or your php error log. The error should be displayed there. Once you have it, you should be able to act further upon it.
Having said that, if you are not sure about how to continue, post the error here and I’ll be happy to assist in pinpointing the issue.
