Virtualmin BIND DNS Server - needed?

Posted on June 5, 2014

Just installed webmin and virtualmin to have a look. All going fine but when I want to fire up Virtualmin it tells me this:

“The BIND DNS server version 8 or 9 does not appear to be installed on your system, or has not yet been set up properly in Webmin’s BIND DNS Server module. If your system does not use BIND, it should be disabled in Virtualmin’s module configuration page.”

Do I need this module - I’ve set the primary and secondary DNS server to NS1 and NS2.digitialocean.com… The module can be disabled but I’d be curious to know what exactly it’s for.

Thanks Mark

Yeah, I believe you probably won’t need the BIND DNS Server in this situation, DigitalOcean manages DNS requests on top of your cloud server so there’s no point at all in using it. Disable it or remove it if you don’t like clutter.

Ok. Thanks for the help.
