I’m as neophyte as they come, but I am accustomed to the cPanel on other hosting services. What is the equivalent of that control panel and where is it to be found?

much obliged

Virtualmin is a Webmin module which allows for extensive management of (multiple) virtual private servers. You will be able to manage Apache, Nginx, PHP, DNS, MySQL, PostgreSQL, mailboxes, FTP, SSH, SSL, Subversion/Git repositories and many more.

You can even buy cPanel if you want that..

Since the VPS it self is cheap enough, if cPanel could have come at little cheaper, I might have went for its license..

All these free Panels has a major advantage, compare to cPanel they are very resource friendly..

I would recommend creating VPS with Ubuntu 12.04 and install zPanel.. Very Similar to cPanel but runs fine with 512MB and keeps a lot of RAM free too
