Why poweroff (even from the command line)?

Posted on May 9, 2015

Dear DO Community,

The Control Panel for “poweroff” says you’ll get charged for usage even if a droplet is powered off.

So why poweroff (even from the command line)?

I mean, what advantage does poweroff give?

Thanks in advance.

Love and peace,

Joe

Dear hunky,

Thanks for the GREAT insights.

Love and peace,

Because sometimes people want their droplets to be turned off.

There are many reason, it varies as per the user and his/her setup…

On regular basis, power off is used to take snapshot either as backup / restore point, before I perform any major update or simply if I need to take a backup (no i dont use the backup option as given by DO)…

However, at the time of development, there were few instances for testing or RnD on few things, that I needed that power off feature…

But as I said, on every day basis, power off helps to take snapshot…
