I’ve defined a TXT record against a domain in my control panel but this doesn’t appear to be being returned when being queried? I’m testing using the Google public DNS server, which I’ve requested to be flushed (for all record types). The server is returning the correct A and MX records, but for some reason not the TXT record?

I am having the same issue. TXT & CNAME are not getting through. Propogation cannot be the reason, since I also tried quering your nameservers directly. If anything, this has to do with caching on your nameservers. It would be nice to have an option to refresh the cache or some other way to not have to wait hours to continue testing.
I am having the same issue. TXT & CNAME are not getting through. “… but this doesn’t appear to be being returned when being queried?”

How so? How much time has passed since you added/modified the TXT record. Remember, DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the Internet (even if some other changes made at the same time take effect a lot sooner).

“… but for some reason not the TXT record?”

Is the TXT record not being returned at all? Remember to wrap the TXT record in quotes. See How To Set Up a Host Name with DigitalOcean.
