Wildcards on app platform without apex domain

Posted on March 15, 2021

Hi folks,

Loving wildcard certs on the app platform.

But I need to pip my apex domain elsewhere and only subdomains to the app platform.

I can only make the app spec accept the apex domain and then include subdomains.

Tried letting DO handle the DNS in hopes of “cheating” a bit and changing the A-record after the fact…which, of course, is not allowed.

Is there any way to achieve this?

Unfortunately this is not supported at this time. Adding a wildcard domain *.example.com assumes that example.com will also be assigned to the app.

I also had issues with Wildcard domain in APP platform, I was not able to make it work, and after two ticket raised and one question here, still could not be solved, therefore I moved away from APP platform and moved everything to Kubernetes solution of DO, where I was able to generate my SSL certificate and setup the DNS CNAME record to *, and magic, it works there.
