Question

Anyone have experience using Droplets to host NFT metadata and images

HI, I’m looking for an alternative to IPFS (Pinata) to host NFT images and metadata. I already use DO apps to host my minting dapps and droplets to bulk upload to IPFS.

IPFS is a little problematic when wanting to change a single file in the collection and am looking for something a bit more user friendly and flexible. Pinata has also just changed its pricing which is now is not really cost effective.

I was thinking I could upload my data into a space, and have the smart contract point at this address, probably using a DO generated subdomain, or even with its own external domain.

The files would generally remain static, and in most cases only ever be accessed two or three times. When the collection is revealed, there would be a significant spike in data transfer for a short time, maybe a few hours, and then pretty much never touched again. Really only stored as a record.

Does anyone have experience doing this, or have any ideas or comments on why it wouldn’t work?

thanks

Hi @sharonsteer,

I don’t have any experience with NFT metadata on DigitalOcean’s Spaces however what you are intending to use does sound like a really plausible solution, I don’t see any issues with it so I’ll recommend you to go for you! Having said that, I am eager to hear how it went so please do let me know once you do.
