Does Spaces have data protection?

Great question! We do have redundancy in our stack, but I kind of want to go a different direction than expected. I could go on about what we do to keep your data safe, but the truth is those are all standard measures that almost any service provider does to keep data safe in such an environment.

As much effort is put into storage redundancy, I don’t want to sell you the product based on that. In fact, I would prefer that you not trust our redundancy (or anyone’s, for that matter) and always keep up to date external backups. If you’re asking if we’ll go out of our way to make sure you don’t have to use your backups, the answer is yes. If you’re asking if we can be trusted so that you don’t have to make backups, I would answer that absolutely no one should be trusted to that degree. Hardware failures happen, as do software failures. Redundancy can fail when managed by software that fails. It isn’t the most rare thing either, it happens every day to people who are committed to not letting it happen.
