Heya,

To set up Google Mail (Gmail) for a Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite or Google Apps) account, you need to configure the DNS settings of your domain to work with Google’s email servers. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set up Gmail with your Google Workspace account:

1. Sign Up for Google Workspace

If you haven’t already, sign up for Google Workspace and follow the prompts to create your account.

2. Verify Domain Ownership

Once you have a Google Workspace account, you’ll need to verify ownership of your domain:

  • Go to your Google Workspace Admin Console.
  • Navigate to Domains.
  • Click on Add/Remove Domains and follow the instructions to verify your domain ownership. You may be asked to add a TXT or CNAME record to your domain’s DNS settings.

3. Set Up Gmail MX Records

After verifying your domain, configure your domain’s MX records to point to Google’s mail servers:

  • Go to the DNS settings or DNS management page in your domain registrar’s dashboard (the company where you bought your domain).
  • Delete any existing MX records.
  • Add the Google Workspace MX records provided during the setup process. Here are the standard Google MX Records:
Priority Value
1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
10 ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
10 ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  • Save your changes.

4. Activate Gmail Service

  • Once you’ve configured your MX records, return to your Google Workspace Admin Console.
  • Navigate to Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail.
  • At the top right of the gray box, click Activate.
  • Follow any additional instructions to activate Gmail service for your domain.

5. Assign User Email Accounts

  • Now that Gmail is activated, go back to your Admin Console.
  • Click on Users to add new users and assign them email addresses under your domain.
  • For each user, click on the user’s name and assign them an email address at your domain.

6. Test Your Email

  • After completing the setup, test the email by sending and receiving emails to/from the new email addresses.
  • Check the inbox for each user to make sure they are receiving emails properly.

Additional Consideration:

  • It might take some time for DNS changes to propagate across the internet. It can be anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours.
  • Ensure that there are no typos or errors in the MX records to avoid mail delivery issues.
