Hi there,
I have 6 droplets running and I want to cancel billing for 1 droplet which I don’t use anymore. I did turn off the droplet which I want to cancel but I still received the billing for that droplet. Can you explain why was that?
Most of all, how can I fully cancel the subscription for that droplet? Plus, can I backup the data of the droplet before cancelling subscription?

As Bobby already mentioned If you want to save a Droplet for future use take a snapshot of it and then destroy the droplet. You’ll be able to create a new Droplet from the snapshot image anytime to bring it back online but you would lose the IP address and get a new one. The snapshots cost $0.05 per GB per month.
Hope that this helps!
Hi there,
In addition to what has already been mentioned, you can take a snapshot of your Droplet before deleting it as described in the docs:
https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/images/snapshots/
That way you will be able to re-create the Droplet later on in case that you need it.
Best,
Bobby
Hi @tule-minh,
In order to fully cancel the billing, you’ll need to destroy the Droplet. When your droplet is powered off, it’s still taking up space on the server. Thus, yes, you’d still be charged. You’d need to completely destroy it to stop it from being charged.
