Hi there, I was just curious about a little article I came across about an Ad blocking DNS server: https://www.debian-administration.org/article/535/Blocking_ad_servers_with_dnsmasq
What I found great about it is that on a Raspberry Pi locally, I can set it up to point to the Pi instead of having to download resources for ads I don’t care about at all.
I do have ufw setup where it blocks everything except web (for sending requests to ad sites to itself, using nginx), ssh (for obvious reasons), and DNS (for actually serving up the local blank webpage, using dnsmasq).
However, the DNS portion of it is not working. I don’t know exactly if it’s DigitalOcean blocking the request, but I would like to be able to setup either any host on my network to point to the droplet as a DNS server, or my router. However, I can’t seem to get it to work, it just borks my internet connection.
