I need to do this exact same thing!

Finally i was able to connect data studio and mysql server inside a DO droplet :

1.- Allow mysql to accept external connections:

sudo vi /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf

look for bind-address = 127.0.0.1 change it to bind-address = 0.0.0.0

2.- restart the server to apply the changes:

sudo systemctl restart mysql

3.- Create a new admin user for mysql:

CREATE USER 'username'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'username'@'localhost' WITH GRANT OPTION;

CREATE USER 'username'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'username'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION;

FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

4.- Open the ports:

sudo ufw allow mysql

That’s all folks now go to datastudio and setup the new connection with que data that you just create (New admin user).
