How To Correctly Upgrade Ubuntu in App Platform?

Posted on April 26, 2024

I follow this tutorial to update ubuntu 18 to ubuntu 22 https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/app-platform-website-not-updating-with-deploy

I added

features:
    - buildpack-stack=ubuntu-18

to the app spec

it did trigger build, but then it show “The build was skipped for component xxx” and said the build was done

but when I open the build pack information, it still use ubuntu 18

Hey!

Indeed, in order to upgrade your App’s Stack to Ubuntu 22, you just need to define it in your app spec file:

...
name: example-app
region: nyc
features:
    - buildpack-stack=ubuntu-18
services:
- build_command: npm run build
  environment_slug: node-js
  github:
    branch: master
    deploy_on_push: true
    repo: example/app-repo
  http_port: 8080
  instance_count: 2
  instance_size_slug: professional-xs
  name: reactions
  run_command: npm start
  source_dir: /

If you are still seeing the old version, what you could try doing is to do a force redeployment to clear any caches that might be causing the issue.

Let me know how it goes!

Best,

Bobby
