Specifically I would like to move from a 1GB/1CPU droplet in SGP to a 2GB/2CPU droplet in same region. Wisdom gathered tell me that I need to destroy the droplet after creating a snapshot and immediately launch a new droplet of my desired size using the image created. However this process doesn’t guarantee preservation of my IP from the old to the new bigger droplet. This is very important for me as my droplet also works as a mail server. Elastic IP doesn’t help since reverse DNS is not possible with it and so was abandoned. Please help.

If you are resizing a Droplet within the same region, you can do this dynamically without loosing your IP address or needing to recreate from a snapshot. This can be done from the resize tab in the control panel:
