Is there a piece of software that I can install on a server to have it push events to my phone. Say Root account being accessed, server reboot initiated, server has pending updates, or HTTP service is down?

I’d use Sensu with an E-mail handler for alerts, but that all depends on your level of comfort with Linux and writing custom JSON scripts.
Carriers have E-mail Gateways, that are usually phone-number@txt.provider or something like that. For example: 5551234567@txt.att.net
