Is there a way to speed up the VNC display?

Posted on April 16, 2013

It’s so incredibly slow to refresh the screen. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? My ping to the server is only 60ms.

Are you running an Ubuntu Desktop droplet or just a server?

If you are running a Desktop because its a full VNC it will also be rendering a lot of graphics on every screen so even with a relatively low ping time it can still take a bit to render.

The VNC display is also in HTML5 so depending on your browser it may be consuming a lot of resources on your local PC so you may want to try Chrome if you haven’t as we’ve seen that it works best with the console.

What are the specs of your server?

It’s the 1gb memory one. But looking at htop nothing is unusual - the core is not pegged, and there is memory left. I even added a gig of swap.
