What is the reason for this report?

Is tmpfs required or beneficial?

Running centos 6.5 I notice I have a tmpfs using 256mb. Do I need it? Any downside to getting rid of it?

The tmpfs you see on a CentOS system is mounted as /dev/shm It’s equal to 50% of your physical RAM by default. It is shared memory which is mostly used for inter-process communication (IPC).
